Each year, nearly two thousand of Minnesota's finest high school music students audition for the honor of participating in an All-State Band or Choir. All-State is the highest honor bestowed upon a high school music student and, this year, four Farmington High School Band students earned this prestigious distinction.
All-State Band students took part in a week-long camp at Concordia College in Moorhead and will also have the opportunity to perform in Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis in February.
FHS students selected for All-State include senior Conner McCarthy (trumpet), and juniors Calvin Reyes (trumpet), Tyler Samion (alto sax), and Mike Cummings (alto sax). In addition, a fifth FHS student - Ben Moorlach (trombone) - was selected but unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts. Three more students were honored as alternates: senior Ryan Huling (tuba) and juniors Anika Mann (horn) and Xander Smaby (trombone).
All-State auditions were coordinated by FHS Director of Bands Erin Holmes and Associate Director of Bands Bradley Mariska. For more information, search for "Farmington High School Band" on Facebook.
