Senior Spotlight: Simon Romero

In honor of the 2018 Farmington High School graduation, we’re highlighting a few (of the many!) outstanding seniors from this year’s graduating class. Today’s Senior Spotlight is: Simon Romero!

Freshman and sophomore year, Simon was on the soccer team for FHS. Now he spends most of his time hanging with friends, holding a part-time job at Home Depot and working toward his passions.

Through high school, Simon has formed great relationships with many teachers and staff, but one in particular stands out.

“Mr. Doyle is hands down my favorite teacher. The relationship my friends and I have with him is past just a normal teacher-student relationship and is more of a mutual friendship.”

One of Simon’s favorite parts about being a Farmington Tiger is the unique opportunities that are available to him that he wouldn’t have been exposed to elsewhere - like project based learning.

In fact, this year Simon was able to get the chance to participate in a self-structured project based learning class. He got to work with a group of his peers, along with Principal Berg, to choose a subject-base for the class and create a curriculum timeline. Simon’s group created a Rock and Roll History class that they would participate in for the trimester. The class ended up going so well that they were asked to present their learnings and experience to the Farmington School Board members at one of their meetings this past March. The Board was extremely impressed by the students presentation and hard work, and would like to offer the class to other students at FHS in the coming trimesters.

“During the process of this project-based learning experience, Simon was really able to find his spark and passion. It was really cool to watch,” said Mr. Berg.

After graduation, Simon plans to dedicate a lot of time to working on his clothing brand that he started with his friend and hopes to eventually own his own record and clothing store.
