Cinda Current at the Minnesota Science Teacher Association Conference
Cinda Current, iNature Specialist at Riverview Elementary, presented at the Minnesota Science Teacher Association Conference that took place in St. Cloud, MN on November 8-10. Her presentation title was “Science Learning in Nature” and the main topics covered were: Science Journaling, the Trout in the Classroom program and Phenology (Sit Spots, Nature Walks, and Goldenrod observations and dissections). Current’s presentation reached science educators from all over the state and various content areas, including but not limited to, pre-service teachers, elementary teachers, science teachers of all strands, higher ed educators and informal science educators.

Last summer, the Farmington High School Art Department attended a week long Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) workshop at the Massachusetts Art Institute in Boston. …"It was an amazing conference.…We decided to show others what we learned in Boston and how we were doing it here at Farmington High School," said Dawn Cherwinka, FHS Art Teacher.

The 2018 Farmington Patriotic Day Celebration will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Farmington High School. All are invited to join us for a free dinner of pork chops and sides at 5 p.m. followed by a special program at 7 p.m. The theme this year is Honor Flights.

Jay Haugen is the 2019 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year
The Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA) has named Jay Haugen, Superintendent of Farmington Area Public Schools, the 2019 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year! As the Minnesota honoree, Haugen is a candidate among other state recipients for National Superintendent of the Year, to be announced during the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) convention held February 14-16, 2019 in Los Angeles, CA. Haugen was selected for this honor by a panel of representatives from a variety of Minnesota education organizations. Nominees are evaluated on how each candidate demonstrates leadership for learning, communication skills, professionalism, and community involvement.

Special Olympics Minnesota Student Leadership Summit
Farmington Area Public Schools recently had the honor of hosting the 2nd Annual Special Olympics Minnesota Student Leadership Summit on Friday, October 12th. The event was held at Farmington High School and was free for students and teachers to attend. Additionally, there was no cost to Farmington. This is a great example of strategy #7 in our District Strategic Plan: We will develop relationships and a culture of interdependence throughout all communities for mutual benefit.

Medication Bottle
Reminder: Medication Authorization Forms
This is a friendly reminder that if you want your child(ren) to take either prescription or over the counter medication (e.g. Tylenol or Advil) at school, a physician and parent signed Medication Authorization form must be completed annually and returned to the building nurse before the medication is administered. Required forms are available here and will not be emailed to you this summer.
