Farmington "Triple A" Award Winners

Farmington Area Public Schools is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017-2018 Academics, Arts, and Athletics, or Triple “A”, Award – Isobel Thompson and Tanner Hubbard. This award is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League and AAA and given to high school seniors who demonstrate excellence in all three categories of Academics, Arts and Athletics.

FHS Band Director Receives Honors

The Tiger Band has become synonymous with Farmington athletic events, pep rallies, parades, and state competitions, bringing the halls of Farmington High School, and the community, to life. FHS Director of Bands, Erin Holmes, with help from Associate Director, Bradley Mariska and former Director Jeff Gottwig, has spent the past 18 years building the Farmington High School band into the 300-student musical art form it is today. Recently, Holmes has received two major honors from state and national music organizations to celebrate her dedication.

Congratulations to Jenny Marshall, a math teacher at Dodge Middle School, and Matthew Grove, a social studies teacher at Farmington High School, on being chosen as the Farmington Teachers of the Year! Ms. Marshall and Mr. Grove were voted Teachers of the Year by their fellow District 192 educators. Our district is fortunate enough to have so many exceptional teachers that the vote this year resulted in a tie.

Congratulations to Kim Lester, an Administrative Assistant with Community Education, on being named the Farmington Area Public Schools Healthy Hero for the month of November! Kim was nominated by Community Education Communications Generalist Kris Akin because of the exceptional example she is setting for her co-workers and the community. In the past year Kim has implemented a healthy eating plan which incorporates more fruits, veggies, and protein. She is taking in fewer carbohydrates and no tobacco or alcohol. The end result? She’s lost 20 pounds and those around her are noticing.

FHS Students Sing in Honor Choir

Eight Farmington High School students have been chosen for the 2017-2018 American Choral Directors Association of MN Honor Choir! These students will spend Thursday, February 22, 2018 rehearsing choral music with other 9th and 10th graders from around the state, culminating in a performance at the Minneapolis Convention Center. "We are so proud of them and excited to hear the beautiful music they will make!" said FHS Choir Director Megan Dimich.

Fall Band Concerts take the stage at FHS
11/10/2017
On Monday, November 13, the high school's Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Varsity Band will perform in concert at 7 p.m. the Recital Hall. This concert will feature a variety of classic and contemporary pieces, including the “Washington Post” march by John Philip Sousa and a dramatic programmatic piece by Robert W. Smith entitled “The Inferno.” Admission is free. On Tuesday, November 14, the FHS Wind Ensemble will join forces with the eighth grade bands from both Dodge and Boeckman Middle Schools, a unique "bridging" concert that will include a variety of music both contemporary and classic, such as "The Stars and Stripes Forever" march. The bridging concert is at 7 p.m. in the FHS Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Solar Panels at Dodge Middle School Come Online This Week!

Farmington Area Public Schools, District 192, has made a commitment to Minnesota’s clean energy future by installing a solar electric system at Dodge Middle School. The solar facility was designed and installed by Sundial Solar Energy, a Minneapolis-based solar energy developer. On Thursday, November 9th, at 9 a.m. Xcel Energy will install the Dodge solar production meter and bi-directional main meter. Xcel will perform what is known as a "witness test" in conjunction with the meter installation. Once these meters are installed the new solar system will be powering the building and feeding excess electricity in to the grid.

District 192 Elementary Schools Participate in Buckets for Hurricane Harvey

Over the past several weeks, District 192 elementary school students have worked to collect donations for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. On Tuesday, October 24, representatives from each elementary school were able to present a check for $2,669.01 to Pellicci's Hardware to support the Buckets for Hurricane Harvey fundraiser. The student's contribution will purchase more than 100 buckets of cleaning and recovery materials for those affected by the hurricane. Many thanks to all our District 192 elementary schools, their generous families, and the greater community!

FHS Senior Presents Eagle Scout Project to RVES Multiage

Sam Wallevand, a senior at Farmington High School, recently presented his Eagle Scout project to the multiage classes at Riverview Elementary School. To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, Sam created I Spy Shadow Boxes for the elementary students to use in play and learning. Each box contains dozens of miniature objects centered on a theme such as sea creatures or a summer picnic. The boxes can be used for developing attention to detail, memory, research skills, creative inspiration and many other things. In addition to the I Spy Shadow Boxes, Sam donated leftover materials to the multiage classrooms for future art projects…

DMS Students Start the Year With Free Books!

Lori Mulhern, a teacher at Dodge Middle School, was very excited to receive free books for all her eighth grade students with her first Scholastic Book Clubs order of the year. “All 80 of my eighth graders received a copy of The Time We Ran Away and Other Short Stories, an original anthology of nine stories created by 11 favorite middle grade authors exclusively for Scholastic Book Club teachers. The anthology actually fit perfectly in our curriculum as we are currently studying short stories. I was particularly excited to begin this year with a free book for everyone. My students were excited too,” said Ms. Mulhern.
